Glycocalicin EIA Kit

Applications:

  • Quantitative Determination of Human Glycocalicin in Platelet Extract, Plasma and Serum

Description:

Glycocalicin is a 110-135 kDa proteolytic fragment of the platelet glycoprotein Ib α-chain (GPIb), which is presumed to be cleaved by cell surface protease proteolysis, such as calpain1. Glycocalicin is believed to include the binding domain structure of GPIb for ristocetin-dependent von Willebrand factor2,3, thrombin4, and quinidine-dependent antibody receptor5. Recently, it has been shown that Glycocalicin circulated in vivo6 and further studies indicate that plasma levels of Glycocalicin might be a useful marker in the classification of thrombocytopenic disorders7,8. In addition, Glycocalicin levels elevated in the supernatants of platelet concentrates during storage might reflect the shedding of GPIb from stored platelet membranes9,10.
